Losing the length

A new season is all about trying a new style!  Chopping off your existing long layers however can be a daring and dramatic experience.

However the new in length appears to be short on one side and longer with a sweeping fringe on the other!  If this is the first time you are attempting a shorter do then this is a good option and a great alternative to a complete pixie look.  The fringe can be swapped over to cover the shorter side, revealing a look that looks a little longer.  The fringe can also be pinned back to create a quiff, which offers another look.

Adding a softer edge to such a style is also possible by curling the fringe and pinning it back with a sweet embellished clip.

Shorter styles are also a great look if you wish to create a little volume and va va voom style as the layers can be tousled up and back combed in order to create a look that screams look at me!  The perfect bed head look indeed!

Get the latest hair news!

Just as clothes, shoes and accessory fashions change, so do hair trends!  Changing cut from long to short or even short to long with the help of a few extensions is a daring task but changing colour is even more so!

Soft blondes and beachy bright hues are very suited to the summer months, however rich mocha colours and reds are great for autumn and winter.  Blonde can sometimes cause you to look a little washed out in the cooler months, which is why now is a great time to opt for a change.

However if you are intending to drastically colour your hair, it is probably better to invest in a great salon.  Otherwise you could end up with horrendous roots or a shade that wasn’t quite what you were expecting!

The help however shouldn’t stop there and once you have coloured your hair, you should invest in a range of hair care products that boast to boost that colour!

Colouring your hair regularly can also cause damage, just as heat styling does.  This is why it is important to buy into a great hair care and conditioning regime.  You should regularly condition your hair in order to keep it in tip top condition.

Peaches and cream complexions suit a brunette look completely, which is great for those that are thinking about making the change!

Teamed tinted tresses with a pop of coral lipshade for the best results!  Now you have a new hair cut, it is only fair to invest in a new ensemble and shoes!

Tips and must oblige rules!

When it comes to keeping your locks in tip top condition and your hair healthy, there are a few rules you must obide by!

These include a great shampoo and conditioner. Look for one that suits your needs and your needs only! For example there is no use in investing in a blonde shampoo if you are brunette. Such a shampoo will have been created with the needs of lighter locks at heart!

Washing your hair everyday however isn’t advised as it will in turn remove oil from the locks, these oils are essential in keeping our hair looking shiny!

Try opting to give your hair at least one day a week off from the likes of heat styling and regular washing! Opt to use a dry shampoo instead, such a product is now available in both brunette and standard, which means those with dark locks no longer have to fear that White powdery look!

Getting to grips with this season’s hot hair trends

A new season is fast approaching, which more than likely means it is most definitely time to give those tired locks a much-needed boost.  This could be in the shape of a new hair shade, a new cut, style and blow dry, a completely new look or a simply great conditioning treatment.

Summer was the time for surfer style locks, laid-back loose waves and sunny blonde highlights.  However autumn and winter tend to push themselves to a warmer shade and a more slick look.

This style was certainly seen on the autumn and winter catwalks.  Catwalk models stepped out in both up and down dos.  Every look however offered a slick appeal in the shape of side parted low slung ponies and uber straight centre parted styles.

Colours varied from golden browns to rich ice mocha shades.  However if you really want to change your look then opt for a plum or ginger glossy hue, such a shade will certainly go with any one of the outfits being released for the new season, it will also really add warmth to a paler complexion.

Even though a few styles from past seasons were still emerging, this season was all about the down do and locks therefore were required to be in perfect condition.  Regular trips to your salon and a great hair treatment will create super shiny locks that look healthy and volume enhanced when down!

Make sure you also spray on a heat treatment prior to styling your hair as tongs and straighteners can do a lot of damage otherwise.  Try a product such as Elasticiser from the salon connoisseur Kingsley.

The Hottest Hairstyles of 2011

The 2011 hair styles have shown diversity in fashion.

There are a few trends for 2011 going into 2012 for long and short hair, curly or straight and there will be something that will suit your lifestyle whether you have minutes or hours to spend on creating your look. Here are some of them;

Long Hairstyles

The Double Knot – This style looks effortless and feminine and can be worn for work for a girly touch to a power suit or on more casual days when you want your hair out of the way. Simply split hair into two, tie in a knot then tie again. Secure with pins or scrunchies. Simples!

Braided Topknot – Why this is still popular is a mystery. It looks like you couldn’t be bothered washing, brushing or indeed doing anything with your hair before leaving the house. But, if you want the unkempt, lack of effort look this is another simple style. Pull your hair into a high ponytail, braid it and twist into a topknot that sits atop your head. The messier the better.

Half Up Braids – A variation on the Goddess braid style, this is a cute look that is very feminine and looks great on long hair. Braid two sections of hair on either side, pull behind your head and secure leaving the rest to fall free.

Short Hairstyles

Waved Bob – Curls and waves are big this autum/winter and if you already have a bob, some products and a little heat applied will get those beach style waves that will bring this look up to date. Good news for naturally curly people, this will take little effort to look great.

Fringes – Back with a vengance! Fringes have been showing up to go with most of this season’s colours and styles from hard lines to soft side partings, there will be something to suit your style.

Healthy tress gurus

Hair heaven is a place we all wish to reside in, at least from time to time!  Waking up with an uncontrollable mop of locks is something we could all do without!  However there are formulas out there that boast to wash that mop away and replace it with a shiny style that screams ‘I have just stepped out of the salon!’

Hydration is key to keeping your locks tame and the best way to keep your hair hydrated is to invest in a smoothing and nourishing shine shampoo and a great conditioner!

Look for one that has been designed for your specific hair type and not one that has been recommended by solely someone you know, as everyone has a different hair type!

Yours may be dry, oily or fly away.  Choose something that combats any thing you wish to resolve!

Healthy hair is also affected by your lifestyle, for example if you are the kind of girl that washes her locks everyday, you may be met with dry hair as washing too often can in fact cause oil loss in the locks!

Those that use a lot of products and styling tools should most definitely invest in a heat combatting spray.  Too much styling can again cause the locks to to become unruly and frazzled, despite it looking good at the time!

Leave your hair to dry naturally as much as you can in order to give it a rest from the wrath of the styling tongs, hairs irons and anything else you may use to style the locks…
